Michel named his enterprise "Farafina" because in Bambara (Mali) the word means "Africa." He considers the world to be his home. He was born in Paris, France and spent his early years there and in Casablanca, Morocco. In 1962 he began his artistic career as a painter in West Berlin and has exhibited in Palermo, Brussels, Amsterdam, Athens, Beirut, Rome, Istanbul, Geneva and Madrid. He now lives in the United States and takes four to six trips each year to his spiritual home, Mother Africa. He has been captivated by the spirit, wisdom, warmth and artistic energy of the people of Africa. He has made friends and contacts over much of Africa and has access to the many wonderful and intriguing art forms produced there by African artists. He travels extensively and has opened many galleries on the east coast of the United States. The galleries spread the Africa artisan’s skill to art collectors from Pennsylvania to Florida. Michel imports exotic treasures from the world’s oldest and most spiritual cultures. They have graced many families’ homes.
