CHRISTINA V. WHITSON is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) and member in good standing with the American Society of Appraisers. She is current Vice President with the Society’s Western North Carolina Chapter, for the second year running. Whitson has completed all four of the required personal property appraisal courses offered by ASA. In April of 2006, she passed the required Ethics exam. Whitson recently completed the required update on USPAP 2008-2009. Whitson worked from 1983 through 1985 at C. G. Sloan’s Auction House in Washington DC as a researcher, writer, and antiques/art appraiser, and again from 1991 through 1994. From 1994 through 1998 she worked as an art consultant for FABREP, a North Carolina firm representing various artists, art publishers, furniture dealers and galleries. Whitson worked with Laurance Triplette, Inc. on personal property appraisals from 1998 through mid-2007, and has worked as Managing Director of Fine Art Appraisal Services since July 2007. When this company folded in July of 2008, Ms. Whitson created her own appraisal company. She is the current Vice-President for her local ASA chapter, a position held for two years. Whitson holds a B.A. degree in History from the College of William & Mary. She has pursued graduate level studies at UNC-Charlotte, and completed the Sotheby’s –London Works of Art Program. LAURANCE D. TRIPLETTE is president of Laurance Triplette, LLC, d/b/a Fine Art Services, a fine art curatorial, appraisal and art market research firm founded in Winston-Salem, N.C. in 1983, and headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., since 1993. During first-quarter 2007, Laurance Triplette, Inc. sold its Carolinas appraisal business to Christina Whitson and Jan Milner, resulting in the formation of Fine Art Appraisal Services, LLC. With the death of Mr. Milner, Triplette and Whitson have formed separate companies, but continue to work together on appraisal projects. Triplette has relocated to Oxford, MS, to work on several book projects. Triplette is an Accredited Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), serves on ASA’s International Board of Fine Art Examiners, is a past officer and state deputy director for the North Carolina ASA chapters, and helped develop the current ASA Fine Arts examination. Triplette has been reaccredited through 2010, and took the required USPAP update in 2009. Triplette has served as a docent for the Mint Museum of Art, is a former member of the boards of The Light Factory, the Sawtooth Center for Visual Art, and the N.C. Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and has been listed in Who’s Who in American Women and Marquis’ Who’s Who and in the 1992-95 editions of Baron’s Who’s Who in Interior Design (for public art projects). Triplette was the founding art critic for Spectator of the (NC) Triad, and has published articles in various periodicals. Founding curator for the former R. J. Reynolds Industries, Inc., Triplette provided curatorial research, catalogued and appraised over 400 tobacco-related objects for an exhibition on Orientalism in the history of advertising, held at the Louvre. Triplette also served as adjunct instructor at Appalachian State University, and has guest-lectured and taught workshops throughout the Southeast. Between 1978 and 1998, Triplette served as curatorial advisor for the N. C. Department of Cultural Resources Governor’s Business Awards in the Arts & Humanities. Triplette has curated exhibitions for more than 25 years, has been an expert witness in court cases, and has served on an EBay fraud panel of art experts since 2004. |
